{"id":289,"date":"2019-02-07T08:01:30","date_gmt":"2019-02-07T08:01:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/csplivingstonia.org\/?p=210"},"modified":"2019-02-07T08:01:30","modified_gmt":"2019-02-07T08:01:30","slug":"child-centred-community-development","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kansadvertising.org\/projects\/csp\/2019\/02\/07\/child-centred-community-development\/","title":{"rendered":"Child Centred Community Development"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Working in the Mzimba district of Malawi, the core aim of this project is to<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>To contribute to the promotion of child well being by ensuring that children grow up healthy in a safe environment where they can learn and develop their capacities in order to meaningfully participate in community life.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project is being implemented in three areas, namely: Malidade, Mnyanjagha <g class=\"gr_ gr_17 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep\" id=\"17\" data-gr-id=\"17\">and<\/g> Thunduwike in T\/A Mpherembe. With 4,178 households, 13 primary schools, 2 community day secondary schools, 3 health posts <g class=\"gr_ gr_167 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep\" id=\"167\" data-gr-id=\"167\">and<\/g> 7 government designations within this area there are ample opportunities to improve the lives and livelihoods of children in these communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the baseline <g class=\"gr_ gr_8 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep\" id=\"8\" data-gr-id=\"8\">survey<\/g> it was found that there was <g class=\"gr_ gr_7 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar only-ins replaceWithoutSep\" id=\"7\" data-gr-id=\"7\">lack<\/g> of social amenities in schools and health <g class=\"gr_ gr_9 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling multiReplace\" id=\"9\" data-gr-id=\"9\">centres<\/g> in the community. In terms of staffing, all the 13 primary schools, 2 CDSS and 3 health posts had inadequate staff. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ultimately, teachers grappled to provide lessons to all classes, but the quality of education was compromised. Similarly, each health post had one medical personnel against a population of 25,000 people on average and as a <g class=\"gr_ gr_168 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep\" id=\"168\" data-gr-id=\"168\">result<\/g> care is limited. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Project Outcomes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Increased representation and participation of children in decision making structures and community life;<\/li><li>Empowered communities, including children, that are able to claim and defend their human rights through documenting, reporting and referral of cases of abuse and violations;<\/li><li>Increased levels of development of children through formal and informal means of education;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Increased capacity of households and communities to respond to and address health and nutritional needs of
